Barbara S. Okun, PhD

 

Barbara S. Okun is Professor, Dept. of Sociology, Demographic Studies, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. She received her B.A. degree in Applied Mathematics from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in Economics with Demography specialty from Princeton University. Barbara is a family and social demographer. Her main areas of research include fertility and family change; marriage patterns and their social consequences; educational attainment and inequality; gender roles; historical demography and demography of Israel. Some of her recent research has focused on fertility in the context of the extended family, as well as on the implications for family dynamics of men’s gender role egalitarianism.
